Everything from the return of the Ford GT to the successor of the Ferrari 458 Italia and even an S63 AMG Convertible, the next few years are expected to be an extremely exciting! Here are our top 5 upcoming cars of 2016 and 2017!
2016 Ferrari 488 GTB
The main concern about the upcoming Ferrari 488 GTB is: Will it be a worthy successor to the Ferrari 458 Italia? To answer this question, we must first bring attention to the changes that engines have had over the previous decade. Many automakers (Mercedes and the M156 6.2 V8 anyone?) have moved away from the loud and powerful N/A engines in favor of the more efficient (and often faster) turbo engines. The Ferrari 488 GTB will have a direct injected twin-turbo V8 instead of the 4.5 liter V8 of the 458 Italia. However, there will be a significant power increase to 661hp (up from the 562 in the Italia). The new turbo system will be very well done, unlike any before (much like the one in the new California T, the first turbo Ferrari since the F40 of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s) and will have different torque maps for gears 1-3 and 4-7. Ferrari has said there will be no lag with the new turbo engine, and a 0.8 engine response time at 2000rpm in 3rd gear. This is an extremely well designed car, and I can only imagine how amazing the special editions will be!
2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 R
Let me begin by saying that aside from the Shelby GT 500 models and Eleanor, I am not a huge Mustang fan. However, the GT350 R is the “ultimate” track Ford Mustang that you can purchase to date and to boot: they will only be building 37 of them this year. Ford is trying to target the Porsche and exotic crowd, as this car will be an extremely intimidating car to see in your rear view mirror at a local track day. The GT350 R has already beaten the time of its rival on the “ring”: Talking about the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. The engine will produce 526 horsepower out of a 5.2 liter V8. This is the most powerful N/A Engine that Ford has produced, period. What really has the enthusiasts going? The fact that it will come in a 6 speed manual gearbox. The car is built for experienced track orientated drivers that are willing to push the car to its limits. It will have a similar power to weight ratio to that of a Porsche 911 Turbo, good company! I hope that this is a preview of more exciting track oriented models that Ford will be releasing in the coming years!
2017 Mercedes Benz S63 AMG Cabriolet
I will not lie, Mercedes Benz is my favorite auto maker. You cannot match the reliability to luxury ratio that it provides, but that is for another article. It is not news that Mercedes releases more models per year than a lot of other luxury auto makers, but when I first heard that they will be releasing a convertible version of the S63 AMG, I was a bit hesitant. There is no argument that the current Mercedes Benz S63 AMG coupe is one of the best looking cars on the road, and I must say I can say similar about the convertible version as well. This is the first 4 seater convertible that Mercedes has released since the early 1970’s. A convertible with 577 horsepower that looks sharp as well? Spring 2016 cannot come soon enough!
2017 Ford GT
Aside from the C7 Stingray, the 2017 Ford GT is the most exciting domestic car that has been produced in a very long time. The car was announced in 2015 and will be on the roads in 2017: that is efficiency at its finest! I have a feeling that it has been in production behind the scenes for a while, kudos for Ford for being able to keep it classified. Ford has gone out and said that the 2017 Ford GT will have the absolute best power to weight ratio of any car currently on the market, maybe it has something to do with the ultra-light carbon fiber wheels. The Ford GT rear wing goes up for the air-brake function, reminds of the McLaren 675LT. The main goal of the Ford GT is set as many track records as possible. I am extremely excited for this car, and I honestly believe that it will be worth the $400,000 price tag!
2017 Lamborghini Urus
According to Lamborghini press releases, they want this to be the highest volume selling model in in their line and I believe that this is the first time they have seriously considered attempting something like this. The “VIP” S.U.V is targeting the wealthy, hipster demographic. Specifically, Lamborghini hopes that the sales of the Urus will be highest in China, as there is a high need of a “platinum” SUV in the market. This car will be no slouch, as it promises to have a V8 Twin Turbo and compete with the likes of the BMW X6M, Mercedes Benz ML 63 AMG, Porsche Cayenne Turbo and other luxury SUVs! I am very excited to see companies like Lamborghini and Bentley branch out of their norm and begin to target a newer audience with their recently announced models, and for a price of 150,000-200,000$ I think that it will be a hit!
